NYMMO attended the Open Farm Sunday at Stonebeck Gate Farm for the 3rd consecutive year, this great initiative gives the chance for individuals to see a real working farm and to learn about the interaction with the moorland area and local community.
There is always so much to see and do throughout the day with working sheep dog displays, sheep shearing, dry stone walling along with the opportunity of exploring the inside of a tractor and getting up close and personal with lambs, hens and even a Clydesdale horse and foal.
John Cavana and his 3 Labradors produced a display on dog training and with a little help from a member of the audience they performed some lovely retrieves. The North York Moors National Park, Askham Bryan College and several local crafts people were also represented which gave a real variety to the day.
Robert Goodwill the Conservative MP for Scarborough and Whitby who is also the Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs was in attendance and joined the rest of the audience in enjoying the displays.
One of the real highlights of Open Farm Sunday is always the home cooked food and this year was no different with a selection of sausage rolls, home made baps, cakes and pastries.
