Many Gamekeepers have bird boxes around their houses and also in various locations across the estates. Here we have 2 very different styles of bird boxes:-
“You don’t have to be a carpenter to make a barn owl nest box” quoted one of our keepers and this is what this photo shows, an old quad bike box cut in half, stuck together and now an adapted new home for barn owls.
The following photos are of two different types of bird boxes, they were built using the “Make a nest box” design and dimensions shown on the B.T.O. website. The boxes with the circular hole drilled in the front are for birds including Blue tit, Great tit, House Sparrow, Nuthatch, Redstart, and Pied Flycatcher. The open fronted boxes are designed for birds including Robin, Pied Wagtail and Spotted Flycatcher.
