Game on at the Feversham Arms Farndale

This week is officially referred to in the calendar as Great British Game Week and so I thought I’d share a little information and photos of another one of our local establishments that have game on the menu throughout the whole year.

The Feversham Arms in Upper Farndale is a delightful pub owned and personally run by Rachel and Alan and provides it’s guests with the very best comfort and hospitality. The Feversham is set in the picturesque surroundings of what is locally known as “Daffodil Valley” because of the stunning display of thousands of wild flowers each year (well worth a visit if you’ve never been).

On the menu they currently have Game Pie which incorporates pheasant, partridge and grouse served with homemade chips and vegetables of the day (attached is a little trip advisor review, the Game Pie must be especially good, as it is too good for mere numbers more than a 10 out of 10).

They also have current season pan fried grouse breast in a red wine & raspberry sauce served on a bed of mash potato with vegetables.

Should you visit at other times of the year you might be lucky enough to try some venison steak, homemade rabbit pie or a duck breast in an orange or plum sauce.

Keepers Day Fun

For many the Grouse Season has already ended or in some areas unfortunately didn’t even get started this year.  But if the number of surplus grouse still allows then estates look to thank all the staff that have helped throughout the year by hosting a Keepers Day.
These days give individuals the chance to have a shot at a grouse, some are more experienced than others but all are very well looked after.  The regular beaters, flankers, loaders, pickers, drivers and also keepers from neighbouring estates get to take part in some much enjoyed role reversals.  These end of season days also see youngsters having their first ever shots under the watchful eye of the keepers who educate them with regards to safety and shooting etiquette.
Grouse Shooting brings together people from all different walks of life and definitely has it’s own special community, young and old friends are made here for life and on this particular keepers day everyone brought along food which made for a real communal feast at lunchtime.
The only mishap on the day was Flame the Fox Red Labrador who needed some running repairs as she had cut her ear, luckily we had a veterinary nurse on hand to administer first aid! As you can see from the photos it didn’t interfere with her work as she was still picking the grouse and no long term damage was done.

Local Game Dealers Day Out

An alternative day out for L & A Dent Game dealers and their friends today who enjoyed a day grouse shooting on the North York Moors.

L & A Dent Game Dealers Ltd is a family run game dealing / processing business operating from EC-approved premises in Carlton in Coverdale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.  Their prime location means they are ideally situated for the collection and distribution of the wonderful game bird, the grouse.  They deal in all game bird species but specialise in Yorkshire grouse.  For more information click on the attached link http://www.dent-game-dealers.co.uk/en/

L&A Dent Game Dealers are used by the majority of the estates within NYMMO and we have been working with them to distribute and encourage the eating of game meat.  Alongside our local restaurants, pubs and hotels who now all proudly have Grouse on the menu we are also supplying local butchers and farm shops.

The grouse were quite challenging due to the strong winds on the moors but our game dealers team of guns still managed to take home a brace or two!  Judging from the photos I would say they looked like they’d enjoyed their day out.

Exciting New Product Launch

This week sees the launch of our 2 new custom designed products, an eye-catching thermal cup and a practically stylish slip lead.

Priced at only £5.00 per cup and £10.00 per dog lead, these are great value, so please support our moorland organisation by purchasing one.

Our NYMMO embroidered shooting socks, pin badges and silicone wristbands have already been very well received and hopefully these new additions will also sell well.

Not forgetting we also have limited stocks of the fantastically vibrant Shuttle Socks.

Christmas is coming, any of these will make a perfect stocking filler.
